General and Emergency Community Resources

ABOUT: Announcements and activities of interest to the lesbian/gay community. Subject to available space, GIA Bylaws and editorial opinion, we would be happy to place your own, or your group's, announcement or listing in La Parola ONLINE at no charge if: (1) the sponsoring party is non-profit and non-political; and (2) the announcement or work is of general interest to our membership and the community. Last Modified November 25, 2007.

ABOUT THESE RESOURCES: You can reach resources like these anywhere in the United States. These can connect you with counseling, emergency services, social groups, community activities, peer "rap" groups, or good dining, lodging and entertainment anywhere in the United States. The best source of fast local information in a non-emergency situation is often the information pages listings in the front of your telephone directory.

If you are calling for a friend or relative who may be in need of crisis or counseling services, it is wise to have written down this information beforehand, and to have actually talked to the people providing the service, to know what you can do to help.

If you should be calling for a crisis you yourself are experiencing: these agencies serve the community because thousands or millions of others of us have "been there" before you. You are not "alone"! Things to do:

    1. actually make the phone call
    2. try to remain calm
    3. ask questions
    4. take written notes
    5. get referrals to community resources
    6. See and talk to peers and folks at the resource.
