Page and Service status list for the Summitlake.com website.

It's a Bug; it's a real bug, and nothing but a bug: Following is a checklist of the status of services and pages available at Summitlake.com. Please feel free to write us about issues and anomalies you notice during your visit to our site. We started this page as a checklist for our November 2002 move to WestHost, but we like the concept so we're keeping it. Items here are the responsibility of Summitlake.com to fix and maintain, and are NOT associated with our hosting service or internet service providers.

Often, users are unsure what the expected or intended behavior of a page or feature might be. All of us are understandably reluctant to "report" an issue we might not fully understand or know how to describe. Ultimately, it's the site's responsibility, not ours.

Now you can see what a "real bug" looks like! (If you would like to report a bug, we've provided a form at the bottom of the page).

06/09/2006 Our old "SimpleSearch" by Matt Wright stopped working some time ago. Not Matt's fault; we built in an unfortunate dependency on an index file we no longer generate on this site. It was simpler to get rid of it than fix it, single the Google Search is far more accurate, and familiar to most people too. Where you find "Search" links, it points to the Google search. (WordPress weblog pages have a Search field, which is different - it searches weblog pages.) Old Search.html's deleted 6-9-2006.
03/04/2006 Thanks to Kerry B for reporting that we'd completely forgotten to update CoolMenus for the switchover from YaBB to phpBB forums. Since the new phpBB forum is still in its infancy, in most cases we just deleted the 404 "File Not Found" links. Fixed 03-04-2006
10-07-2004 Calendar Calcs had a rounding error that affected calcs for some years (1864, 2005) and not others (1965-2004). Thanks to Greg H. for catching this! Fixed 10-20-2004
10/23/2003 AutoList worked on top level directory but gave malformed URL's for subdirectories. When WestHost converted to WH2, this changed the server path to the files (which Perl needs to catalog them and print the directory lists). This has been broken since 9/7 and went unreported. URL output bug fixed 10/23/2003
7/2/2003 Gosh, this one is embarrassing. Out of idle curiosity, we tested the Bug Report Form at the bottom of this page. Sure enough, we'd modified the program, and the form no longer worked. Bug fixed 7/2/2003
6/22/2003 We discovered that autolist, our program that generates self-updating menus almost everywhere on this site, had a missing close tag for all <li></li> menu items. Internet Explorer corrects for this, and we have never seen a problem on the Mac side either. This is being corrected in a new version of autolist that's still under development.

5/30/2003 The Master Site autolist says there are only 736 or so pages listed. You say Summitlake serves over 800 pages. What happened to the other pages?

Good question. This site is supported by over 5,400 files consisting of html pages, scripts, text files, graphic images and other resource files. We did what any housekeeper would do. We remodeled. Not a bug!.

Our local directory folder search finds 1,490 files with extension .shtml, .html or .htm. Listing only the root page on multi-page articles saves a lot of listing space.
We moved "big article" pages (such as "Pravda", 120 files) to unlisted directories quite some time ago. Only the root or master article page is listed. The root article page will index all the article sub-pages. This saves yards of page-by-page listings in the autolists.
5/25/2003 The Home Index page's new AT A GLANCE listing was displaying some links that pointed to frames components, such as the single most recent page in a collection of pages. There was no direct way to navigate to the local frame index so you could browse other pages in the collection. Links have been fixed to point to the frame index, so you can browse all the pages displayed in the collection.
2/6/2003 Coolmenus4 frames working under MacOS 10.1 IE5.2. No CM problems noted at this time for Mac or Win. Fixed.
2/5/2003: Site fix for Coolmenus frames under MacOS 10.1 and IE5. We are still working on a Mac "arrow fix" for level 1 menu items that have level 2 child menus. This is the pointer graphic that indicates when there are submenus. Viewed on some Macs, the graphic cannot be found. The menu draw problem was CSS, not CM. A test of the Mac arrow fix worked and we're still working on applying it to the site.

2/2/2003: Coolmenus4 (frames version) does not work well under Mozilla 1.2.1. Child menu items do not drop down or display. CoolMenus breaks - does not work at all - under Mac OS 10.1 with IE5.

The home page indexCoolmenus is not the frames version, but the standalone, and no major problems were noted on any browser or platform tried.

We will watch the dhtmlcentral user forum and bug fixes. This problem has been reported by another Coolmenus4 user as well.

2/3 Mozilla fix found on CM forum; installed. Their frames demo works on Mac, so we should be able to make our localized version work. If you are encountering problems, thanks for your patience!

12/02/2002: We're still noticing problems where a rebuilt index doesn't stay "fixed" and gives bad links after a page is added. We changed the routine to re-index all the subdirectories in a department index, even when only a page is updated. This should not be necessary, but it seems to have fixed the problem. Cross your fingers.

autolist10 modified 12/2/2002

using autolist 11y 2/2/2003

11/28/2002: Sure enough, people have been getting bad links in COMMENTARY with file names like
wrong: COMMENTARYDear_President_Bush.html
right: COMMENTARY/Dear_President_Bush.html

rebuilt the autolist index 11/28.
11/27/2002: the same issue found in AutoList menus. The link looks good, but when you click it you get "Page Not Found" errors -- on every item in the menu. autolist10.pl uploaded and tweaked for the server path to HTML. This is one to keep an eye on for a while. fixed 11/27/2002
11/27/2002: malformed clickable URL in "SEARCH" pages. Reported by Dave. CGI fixed. fixed 11/27/2002

domain name switchover. Registration completed 11/25/02.

100% DONE. Zero traffic on old site since about 11/13.
11/17/2002 We found a new problem with the listings produced by script autolist6M.pl. These display in the menu panel of the department indexes. Files for subdirectories display correctly, but the underlying link is bad. Clicking on a subdirectory file (within a folder underneath the index directory) will produce a file not found error. Fixed 11/17. Not real happy with the fonting though.
