In
which we collect "the worst of the worst"; a scavenging
of slurs and diatribes against the gay community distinguished either
by (a) pure, unadulterated, mince-no-words hate smears, or (b) by
the elaborate pretense of intellectual discourse. These last are
the worst frauds, the "Mein Kampfs" which give the appearance
of intellectual and moral legitimacy to skinheads. In our view,
these typify a broader threat to the entire community -- to all
of us.
We present the source material (or links to it) here, with our
responses and analysis, in the hopes that the careful reader will
see common threads in all hate literature, and why some people find
superiority theories so convincing.
Some links below appear to require little or no elaboration. Many
sites are extremely offensive to thinking people.

July
29, 2000: The Other Side of Hate Propaganda
Following is the "other side of the abomination dialog"
that you almost never get to see first-hand. It's pathetic.
Evangelical Christians have their own WebRing, as may any affinity
group. Are these a threat to independent thinkers? Are they a threat
to the gay community? Unless they spout violence (and this site
didn't), we don't think so. On the whole: these sites mainly influence
like-minded other sites, and have no real impact on the gay community,
or on newcomers who need real information about what it means to
be gay.
Nevertheless, such sites are often cited as "evidence"
by the unthinking, the unwashed, and by malevolent gay-haters and
gay-baiters such as the "Reverend Phelps".
In this capacity, "trash religion" sites serve the same
role as soiled mattresses at the dump: when a public dump becomes
a community hazard, you go after the dump operators, not the folks
who unloaded their garbage.
Here's a Horror Files site with a twist.
E-mail from "Tony_Earl CNLGLFG [Tony_Earl@webtv.net]",
was detected in our very first trial of freeware program "SPAM
Buster" (our free trial version also had a serious defect,
so we uninstalled it).
The E-mail subject was "sorry about matthew" (all lower
case), which gives you an idea where this is headed ...

( 404 - URL not found) |
The URL belongs to a site put up by a guy named Tony Horton, or
Tony Earl. You can't tell which by reading the web page, but it
doesn't matter. It begins much like other twisted, sick, perverted
anti-gay Christian hate propaganda: "No one is born gay. It's
a perverted choice you made."
|
3/9/2002: Tony
Horton is still sending out his "Sorry About Matthew"
trash-religion spam, and writes that his URL has changed.
Get over it, girl!
Christians
No Longer Gay Living For God
I received three emails, actually, and I guess these folks
troll the Matthew sites. I want to emphasize again that these
folks preach a religion of self-denunciation but do not seem
to actively promote gay-bashing. Don't waste your time and
integrity sending them flame letters, or trying to engage
them in debate.
- If you are a member of the GLBT community and in conflict,
talk to others who have been there. Contact PFLAG
or (in the SF Bay Area) The
Pacific Center For Human Growth.
- If you are a GLBT Christian and are having trouble reconciling
your personal religion and sexual orientation, there is
an organization and church for you. Do a Google search on
"Gay Christian" or "Gay Muslim" "Gay
Buddhist" ... and start finding out how much support
you have been missing.

"In short i was a homosexual with a lost soul and now im no
longer a homosexual living and seeking God's will at all cost in
my life."
The site unfolds a pathetic layer: the site is sick, confused,
and litters the bottom of its parrot cage with droppings of politicized
bible-babble. Like all evangelists, the site assumes people will
be interested in these dogmas because it name-drops God, biblical
citations, and a particular church sect.
Don't get caught up arguing whether the site's author is a gay
who thinks he's straight, or bi, or a straight boy who thinks he
used to be gay. Psychosexuality has nothing to do with what's wrong
with this page. Page content is driven by religious propaganda,
not a real, living, breathing person. Behind this, there are hints
of a confused and tortured person who thinks his sexuality has something
to do with it.
This site is living proof that the values we humans embrace are
the "drivers" of the human Operating System. Install corrupt
DLL's, and your OS will always be a mess.
In a nutshell, the site is harmless to anyone who already knows
better. A Javascript banner advertises this as an "Awesome
Christian Site", and this site is linked by a WebRing affinity
grouping, presumably, to others of its bent. The site also plays
some annoying churchy music.
Please do not harass this person with correction, polite or passionate
disagreement, flame mail or anything else. There's no common ground
here; nothing to talk about. If you had heard there's sites like
that "out there", but never seen one, here's your chance
for a real education. That's all. It's a free country. Let it go
at that.
The
Westboro Baptist Church Home Page "This is NOT a joke ---
this is a legitimate website of a Baptist church -- it is filled
with more hate than you can possibly believe. If you plan on sending
them nasty e-mail, I would not waste my time --- they have filters
set up to delete lots of the mail. I would suggest you look at the
site though and see what kind of people are out there.......some
of you will be amazed at it".
This
one is dangerous.
The image above is the actual web page logo of the Westboro Baptist
Church. These creatures will be picketing Matt Shepard's funeral
Friday, October 16, 1998. Not because Matt was murdered, but because
he was gay. Undoubtedly they will say deserved to die. Matt was
beaten and murdered by homophoblic youths in a particularly savage
and notorious gay-bashing in Laramie, Wyoming.

Matthew Shepard
in memoriam
1976 - 1998
As you peruse these pages and the hate links collected here,
ask yourself whether you can see a clear causal relationship between
the lawless, un-Christian hate rhetoric of the Rev. Phelps and
his kind, and the current resurgence of gay-bashing, violence
and discrimination against others on the basis of sexual orientation
alone.
To Rev. Phelps and his cult, Billy Graham is a "heretic".
The Christian Right are seen as mealy-mouth, waffling cowards.
This outfit is the Reverend Phelps group, in the flush.
Try to remember that these folks
are related to Christianity, as coliform bacteria counts are related
to public swimming pools.
"The Ad" - The
Christian Coalition ad finally came to San Francisco. It was all
there in the 8/16/98 Sunday San
Francisco Examiner. It was all we expected, and less. A lot
of good people simply won't know what to make of it. Would they
spend all that money for an ad if there wasn't some truth to it?
Let's examine that hypothesis in detail.

EXPOSE: "Inventing
The AIDS Virus" . A book that pretends AIDS is a hoax.
Hoax books and elaborate "proofs" are coming back into
fashion in some circles -- particularly when they're defamatory.
Our take on the book, and on the thinking which makes it attractive
to certain types of people. Source material, analysis and links.
RELIGIOUS TRACT (link): Aberrant
Sexuality The theological underpinnings for the anti-gay True
Believer. In March, a jury found John C. Salvi III guilty of murdering
two receptionists outside a Boston abortion clinic. In Israel, a
smirking Yigal Amir was sentenced to life imprisonment for the assassination
of a Peace Prize co-winner, prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. What kinds
of ideas might gay-bashers seek for their moral justification for
murder? Why do some political fundamentalists want so desperately
to believe in a "cure" for homosexuality? Read this tract.
It doesn't get any better than this. Guaranteed 100% non-violent.
