Well, you can't please everybody. For a site that's been calling it as we see it for 7 years now, we've accumulated a lot of commentary. We get a lot of thoughtful mail from folks who think we have "something worth talking about" on subjects as diverse as building PC's, Astronomy, Geology and Evolution, Gay Issues, Poetry and Creative writing, Cooking, Photography, the Outdoors, "getting a life" and Political and Social Commentary. When you draw almost a quarter of a million readers a year, it's inevitable that a few will get as far as "I was born gay" and mentally freeze up right on the old highway. La Parola has a lot to say about gay issues. Our posture regarding the Christian community is that everybody has a right to express their opinion. But we won't help others spread hate, falsehood, prejudice, or defamatory comment. As a matter of professional courtesy we don't normally publish letters from readers without their agreement. We make exceptions for blatantly abusive and defamatory material. Our published policy, posted on this site under our Copyright page, states:

There is no "page" for the first category; many of the most delightful articles hosted on this site are written by people who first just wrote in to say "hello" and offer a kind word. If you disagree with us so strongly that you feel reduced to spreading falsehoods or crude ad-hominem attacks, we'll help you out by airing your irrational letter, complete with return address, whenever the whimsey strikes us. Letters on this page may be seriously misguided and out of touch with reality. Or, they may be blatantly irrational and deliberately offensive. We do not publish letters that threaten individuals or classes of people with violence or deprivation of rights. (Actual threats, if ever received, will be reported to your internet service provider and ours, and to the local police.) If Summitlake.com makes you hot under the collar, we suggest you cool off before responding. Try one of our other departments for a while; you're bound to find something you actually like. As we said in "Horror Files", we do not want our readers hounding or harassing individuals whose letters end up being posted here. If we hear of it, we can always change this page so you get blocked from reading it, instead. You are not supposed to be that kind of reader. If you must write (either to us or to contributors), please consider that if Miss Manners wouldn't approve, we probably wouldn't either. Once again: if you ended up in La Parola by accident, and don't like what you see, go read one of C.Bear's stories or a Computers article instead. If you came here anticipating something to disagree with, we're bound to please. If you have something disrespectful to say about that, a careful reading should convince you we're heard it all before, and can probably summarize your argument far better than you articulated it. La Parola and this "Rants and Flames" page exist for one primary reason: to serve as a safe space for genuine friends, and those who haven't yet learned how to respond to gay baiters. We are not a forum for the Christian Coalition, Traditional Family Values, or any of the other manifestations of political guerilla warfare action groups that have infested this country. In fact, this whole website is dedicated to the proposition that "my preacher says it's a sin" has absolutely no relevance. Gays and lesbians will in time win the same civil liberties as all other Americans, whether you like it or not. As for what you think of that, or us: by what double standard would you expect us to respect your opinion, when your xenophobic "kingdom of God" agenda would disqualify us even from expressing opinions? Shame on you.
