| Like a playbill, the "cast of characters" in
the application list above is a chronological listing of everything
we have used and liked on this site since 1995. You'll note
that some of these apps are gone forever. Many of these listings
read more like a history of the Internet, which they are.
But all played a role or a part in its development.
It's much more work to capture a logo or icon for Windows
applications than Mac, which is why more of these show up
on our "not pictured" list.
Currently (March 2003), we rely most heavily on the following
products or services:
- Page design: Dreamweaver MX, Homesite 4.5 and 5.0
- Scripting: Homesite, TextPad (Windows)
- Scripting (Macintosh): BBEdit 6.0
- Automated page creation (development side): Frontier 6.0
- Automated page creation (server side): Perl
- FTP: WS_FTP_Pro 7.0 by Ipswitch
- Buttons and graphic navigation devices: PhotoShop 7.0
- Web Images: Photoshop, Fireworks
- Panoramas: Panorama Factory
- Perl publications: O'Reilly & Associates
- DSL and dialup connectivity: Pacific Bell Internet/SBC
- Web hosting: WestHost
No listing is made for hardware or OS platform because it's
irrelevant to the web. We use a Pentium desktop, iMac and
a laptop for web development. This site uses mostly Windows
2000 for reasons that have little or nothing to do with webmastering.
Great web pages can still be created with any machine, any
text editor, and a good idea.
