While in college, I planted a lemon seed (from a store-bought lemon) in a little pot of soil in 1970. You can actually sprout them, but folks say they will never bear fruit. I toted it in its cramped plastic pot to a friend’s house where I rented a room, and shared those wonderful first years of working in the real world. Then I moved on. While visiting this weekend, at the same house, my friend said, “do you remember that little lemon tree you brought from Sacramento Street?” Here it is, bearing its first fruit too, after 38 years.
