| 13 Pools | These Sierra pools were a favorite spot of times past. Icy even in August, few would swim in them for more that a few seconds, some hardy souls making it for almost a minute. We remember the hot flat rocks upon which you could climb out, dripping wet and shivering, and the stored warmth of the sun which would bake back into you when you lay down on your towel on the rocks to warm up again. We remember the children who would yell "we dare you!" and then not jump in themselves, and the time somebody actually caught a trout in this diving hole, and most of all ... we remember the happy laughter, stored now like the solar energy in those rocks, only this time forever, through the coldest long winters and the deepest snow-packs. | |
