  16_Sierra_Buttes.jpg - This color photo was taken in Tahoe National Park, in late Fall of 1975. The locale is in the vicinity of Sierra City. It all began with an abortive fishing trip on the Mokelumne, to the south. We followed signs there that read "this way to Shad's Resort", but never found it. What "Shad could do with his resort" was a standing joke for many years afterward. After fishing in the rain in a roiled, brick-red muddy river for several hours, we headed for the North Fork of the Yuba. As luck would have it, it was actually snowing when we got there. This color photograph shows the imposing Sierra Buttes, just north of Sierra City. The photo, taken in a light snowfall, would pass for black-and-white. It was taken from the bridge on the east side of town, just before we began the long drive back down highway 49, 80 and home.
