  33_Burro_Pass.jpg - Burrow Pass is at the northern terminus of Cold Canyon (in northwestern Yosemite), near mighty Matternhork Peak (right background) and Sawtooth Ridge (to the left). From Burrow Pass, you can descent into forbidding Crown Lake, which is what we did. This was a thankless task, bringing me down a never-ending series of switchbacks into a muddy perpetually-shadowed lake with bear tracks surrounding its swampy banks. I spent an uneventful but somewhat sleepless night there, braved the return switchbacks, and continued on west to beautiful Rock Island Pass, where the "Snow Cave" photo was taken.
