| P080 Coyote Pt | This shot was taken from the north Burlingame shoreline, facing roughly northwest before mid-day. San Francisco International Airport would be a mile or two off the right edge of the photo. At the turn of the last century (that would be 1900), there was a commercial attempt to turn Coyote Point into an amusement park. With much fanfare, Ferris Wheels and merry-go-rounds were constructed, but people never attended in any great numbers, and the commercial effort was a failure. For much of the year, the point is cold and windswept, and, at certain times of year a dense maritime fog envelops everything in the region. On still mornings, you can yet hear the polite little foghorn warning mariners at the approach to the Coyote Point marina. | |
