Dscn5649_Vandenberg.jpg - Dave writes: I happened to be facing just the right direction to see, through the trees, a bright spot of white light rising above the clouds over the coast. The spot was trailing a narrow cone of light that gradually broadened as it rose in the sky. Must have continued for the better part of a minute in our sight, gently arching out to sea and diminishing in size, finally winking out at a presumed velocity approaching 18,000 mph. As the evening sky darkened, the stars began appearing, and the clouds slowly receded, unveiling the hidden artistry of rainbow scribbles left by the drifting contrail. Note the dark side of the moon, and the "fuzzy" avocado trees blowing in the chill wind.
